Welt 2

Jesko Fezer | Axel John Wieder

October 20, 2001 - January 12, 2002

When snow falls on the city, a white covering obscures its hitherto boundaries: between road and pavement, public and private space, between real estate, tenure and the land register. Invisible corridors of hot air form in the entrances of department stores; other buildings extend themselves beyond their facades in an exchange of stale air for fresh. It is warm and sticky here; these are places that only become visible in winter, by melting the snow nearby.

The phenomena of warm air and snow can be useful metaphors, and are central to the exhibition World 2. Substantial intervention into the spatial structure of the gallery localise them within the institutional actualities of the exhibition space. The references developed by Jesko Fezer and Axel John Wieder point to the conditions for the existence of enclosed spaces, as exemplified and revealed by historical discourses on the public and private spheres.

Parts of the exhibition have been shown in a different form as Street/Doorstep (Winter) in the Museum Fridericianum in Kassel.

No war! Never, nowhere!
